Ketupat Making & Raya Card Making Event

For the last 3 weeks, we were having a concourse event in conjunction of the upcoming Raya celebration.

It was amazing to teach so many young kids the value of tradition & what Raya is all about.

Here is some of the crafts that we taught:

The traditional Ketupat is a little tough for some kids, but when they finally did it...it is priceless!

Hari Raya Cards of various designs:

And what Raya is without the Ketupat...

This Craft Making session was an initiative from Subway Putra Mall KL to promote the Ramadan. We were privilege to be part of their initiative!

New Craft Skill 1 - the Beginning

Last Year, I made a resolution to pick up a new skill & master it every quarter.

Starting in January, I have started to pick up Rainbow Loom. I know, I know, you may say that the craze is over. I won't deny it. But what I am doing is not the bracelets, but other things.

I began the journey with Jelly Bands. Not my favorite type of bands though...the 1st item I made was this...it is done using the same method as crochet, only thing is we are using rubber bands instead of yarns...

1) 3D Star keychains...these are for my son's party pack for his classmates...

2) This is for one of his class mates that will be celebrating his birthday 2 days after my son...his name is Yuya, so I made an alphabet Y plus a star. I attached it to the crocheted car keychain to make it more personalized.

3) This is for his classmate that will be celebrating his birthday 3 days after his...he has Y & J in his name, hence the alphabets...& I attached it to the crochet car keychain as well.

Hm...not bad for a start...will be experimenting more items! Stay tuned!

Green is the color of Balance

I have a friend who loves the color of Green. She has no idea why she loves the color though...

2 weeks back, we decided to meet up. So I made her something Green...these are my latest projects, so I just make additional for her since I don't have much time to come up with a new design (been busy fulfilling orders...LOL)

This dear friend of mine happens to be a Workaholic too, so I prepared a card for her with the following message:

Dear XXX,
Have you wondered why you love Green color so much?
The secret language of Green is Balance.
Since you devote most of your time to work & most of the time complaining that you don't have time for other things, could it be the reason why you love Green? As maybe it is trying to tell you to find some balance in your life?
I hope you like this Green bear. Her name is Balance.
I added a Lucky Star for you. Hope it brings you luck. Plus, since a star has 5 points, it represents work, health, family, friend & self.
With this, I hope you will be able to slow down & find some balance in all 5 areas of your life...
The doll is Jo. I dressed her in your favourite color! Much like you, Jo is hardworking, ambitious, passionate about her environment & loves power. She is one of the dolls in my latest craftwork Friendship Kokeshi Doll.
Hope you love the gift...

When I passed the gift to her & she reads the card, she laughed out loud...

But, I'm glad she loves the gift...:D

Sesame Street Challenge? Bring It On!

2 weeks ago, a friend of mine challenged me to make Elmo. She said if I can make it, she wants to buy for her colleague, who is leaving the company soon...so, I said OK...let's give it a try...and since I'm making Elmo, she said if possible, make Cookie Monster as well as her colleague is a huge Elmo & Cookie Monster fan...

So, I started to experiment Cookie Monster...it took me about 2 hours to complete it...I used my son's plush Cookie as model...

This is the completed Cookie Monster...front & rear view...

I added a tiny lil' cookie for him...

Then I proceed to make Elmo, based on my son's plush Elmo...

Of course, since I'm into making cute keychain/charm, I make these 2 cuties into what I love...& tadaa...

Notice the alphabet D on Cookie Monster? That's the new owner's initial...I added a flower to the alphabet to make it cuter...and for Elmo, I added a yellow star...so we call him Lucky Elmo...

Lucky Elmo & Baby Cookie are about 4.5in tall & they sit on my palm just nice...

I packed Lucky Elmo & Baby Cookie in a see thru pouch...

Ok, now everybody says 'cheese'...

So how? Not too bad huh? My friends love it so much...LOL...wonder if she is going to give it to her colleague or she will keep it for herself!
